31 Mar Bridal Hairstyle Updo: Chignon, the French Bun
Ah the chignon, the classical french bun at the nape of the neck. No not a pastry, but that does sound good though! Yum, a warm pastry and a cup of coffee with mostly cream. I digress, this popular bridal updo is one of the most versatile hairstyles in a bridal hairstylist’s portfolio. As you can tell from these photos, no chignon is exactly the same.
There are endless variations to compliment your personal style, wedding dress and wedding theme. If you’ve never worn a chignon before I do recommend that you try a chignon hairstyle during your bridal trial. Especially if you are planning a summer outdoor ceremony, wearing your hair up will not only keep you cool but also hold the style more effectively. When the inevitable humidity hits, the chignon will not let you down.
So just how did this hairstyle originate? I mean, I am certainly no scholar but it seems that this formal updo has been around for a long time. Thanks to a bit of research it seems the French have the Athenian women of ancient Greece to thank for this classic look. So when your deciding on how to wear your bridal hairdo, channel your inner goddess with a chic chignon.
